The journey to your fitness goal has a start and an end.  To create an effective training plan that will help you reach your goals, you must determine your starting point. 

ELM's professional Fitness Assessments are designed to give you objective measurements of your current strengths and weakness'.  Taking a 'snapshot' of your current fitness level will not only provide the framework for your training plan but it will also motivate you to stay on track with your training over the long term.

Canadian Physical Activity, Fitness & Lifestyle Appraisal CPAFLA

The CPAFLA Health and Lifestyle Appraisal must be conducted by a Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology (CSEP) Certified Personal Trainer (CPC).  This Canadian National standardized appraisal involves an initial consultation to gather health and lifestyle information as well as a health related fitness assessment including body composition, aerobic and muscular fitness. 

Upon completion of this assessment you will receive a summary or 'snapshot' of your current health related fitness and an 'action plan' to help you reach your health goals.  Please allow for 1.5 hours to complete this appraisal.

The CPAFLA includes the following assessments:

Baseline Measurements

  • Resting Heart Rate
  • Resting Blood Pressure

Anthropometric Measurements

  • Height & Weight
  • BMI Body Mass Inded
  • SO5S Sum of 5 Skinfolds
  • WC Waist Circumference

Cardiovascular Measurement

  • Step Test (submaximal test of aerobic fitness)

Muscular Strength and Endurance Measurements

  • Push Ups (muscular endurance)
  • Vertical Jump (peak leg power)
  • Back Extension (lower back muscular strength & endurance)
  • Grip Strength (muscular strength)

Flexibility Measurement

  • Sit and Reach (lower back/hamstring flexibility)

Biomechanical Assessment and Exercise Prescription for Runners

The secret to running faster and further is training smarter not just harder.  Making simple changes in strength, flexibility, technique, and program design will help you reach a new level of performance. This specialized package is designed for runners who want to improve their running efficiency and take their performance to a new level.  All runners from beginners to elite athletes will benefit from this personalized assessment.

Package Includes:

  • One-on-One Health History and Personal Consultation
  • Submaximal VO2 max treadmill test
  • Biomechanical Video Analysis & Review
  • Muscular Strength & Flexibility Assessments
  • Norm comparisons
  • Detailed summary and review of your results
  • Personalized Exercise Prescription to address muscular imbalances and improve running efficiency
  • Allow for 1.5 hours

Cost: $100

Body Composition Assessment

This is an excellent tool for monitoring progress and staying motivated over time. 

This assessment includes:

  • Body fat & lean body mass percentages
  • Body mass index
  • Waist-to-hip ratio
  • Girths
  • Norm comparisons
  • Detailed summary and review of your results
  • Allow for 20 minutes

Cost: $25 or $60 for 3 assessments


Pesonalized Fitness Assessment

This is very important step in the development of specific fitness goals and a fantastic tool for analyzing the effect of your training over time. This assessment is perfect for those who are interested in obtaining baseline information on their current fitness level.  

This assessment includes:

  • Specific functional or sport specific test based on your needs
  • Aerobic Fitness (VO2 max field test)
  • Muscular strength and endurance
  • Balance
  • Abdominal strength
  • Core stability
  • Flexibility
  • Norm comparisons
  • Detailed summary and review of your results
  • Allow for 1 hour

Cost: $75 for Private Assessment

$30 pp for Group Fitness Assessment


Lifestyle Appraisal

This appraisal is a great way to intitiate change when you are considering becoming more active.  A Lifestyle Appraisal is a very important step at the beginning of any new lifestyle journey.  The Lifestyle Appraisal uses key tools to develop a 'snapshot' of your current health in a variety of areas.

Your results are shown in various 'health benefit' zones to provide you with a view of your current health.  Includes ideas for action and tools for reaching your goals. 

This is a consultation style service and can be completed in person or over the phone. 

Allow for one hour 

Cost: $60
