The secret to running faster and further is training smarter not longer! Making simple changes in strength, flexibility, technique, and program design will help you reach a new level of performance.

In Equilibrium Lifestyle Management’s Need for Speed clinic, Kinesiologist Sarah Seads, demonstrates training principles and techniques designed to improve your running form, decrease your risk of injury and personalize your running program. Learn how the science of Kinesiology and biomechanics can help you reach your running goals in this specialized clinic.

This unique running clinic is divided into two 6-week training sessions. 

Part 1: After a long training or racing season it is time to take a step back and develop a plan of attack for the coming year.  This is the time of year to focus on technique, muscular imbalances and program design. 

Topics include: Fitness Testing, Video Analysis and Biomechanics of Running, Strength Training For Runners, Muscular Imbalances: Identification and Correction, Periodization: Annual Program Design and Cross Training for Runners.

Part 2: In the second part of this clinic we will take your training intensity up a notch as we focus on techniques for building speed and power.  Learn advanced training techniques that will allow you to make a breakthrough in your running ability.

Topics include: Video Analysis and Biomechanics review, Exercise Physiology, Key Training Principles, Dynamic Strength Training for Runners, Speed Training Techniques, Injury Prevention and Nutrition for Optimum Performance.

ENDURANCE TRAIL RUNNING! ELM Half Marathon Clinic
Get off the road and train in the trails this summer!  This clinic will focus on going for the long haul with programs for the half marathon distance.  Option of racing in the Port Alberni Log Train Trail race August 19th, 2007 . First time endurance runners will build gradually up to their goal distance with a focus on safety and injury prevention.  Experienced distance runners will work on fine tuning form, training techniques, building strength and increasing stamina to reach their goal race times.

ADVENTURE-MIX!

Whether you are a seasoned adventure racer, new to the sport, or you have no desire to race and are simply looking for a great workout, this cross-training clinic will motivate  you to push your upper limits!  Each session includes an outdoor run, indoor spin, core training and  flexibility session.  The perfect cross-training workout for all fitness enthusiasts!

Attention Adventure Racers, Runners, Triathletes and Bikers: 

This specialized clinic will keep you motivated all winter and get you in fantastic shape for the upcoming season!  Training  will include specific exercises designed to improve your core stability, functional strength and power.

Each weekly training session includes:

  • 20-30-minute outdoor run- Intervals, hills, and speed work.  Interval training means you can work at your own level and everyone gets a challenging workout.
  • 20-30 minute indoor cycling. Variety is the spice of life! We will take you through undulating courses, long slow climbs, and speed work on the flats that are designed to get you ready for biking season or simply make you sweat!
  • 15 minute functional circuit-core, upper and lower body exercises using body weight, partners and a variety of stability equipment to keep you challenged.
  • 10 minute cooldown & stretch.  A thorough stretch will round out your training session and let you relax after this serious workout.

Prerequisite: Ability to run 45 minutes, no biking experience required for spinning.

ELM 'FLEX' CARD OPTIONS:

FLEX options are great for returning participants who want to enjoy ELM Training Sessions without the cost of additional program services such as manuals, testing, weekly emails or educational materials.  FLEX cards can be used at all of our regular programs including Bootcamp, Running and Hiking clinic classes.  FLEX cards can not be used for special clinics or events and some restrictions apply. Contact ELM if you have any questions about these options.
